Dekker's 4th Birthday

Sunday was Dekker's 4th Birthday. We had a great time. Ed and Nadine are in town and they were able to celebrate with him. We started out with a small birthday party on the back patio where we could have cupcakes and Dekker could open up his presents. He got some very cool stuff! Be ups to Colleen for making good tasting cupcakes. The kids are on a gluten free, dairy free, casein free, all organic diet. It's not easy making good cupcakes without flour and butter.
After lunch we headed up to Park City Mountain Resort for some inflatable slide fun and the trampoline and games which they really like. Dekker gets flying down the slides and you can see in one photo I caught him airborn as he hit the landing. That pretty much knocked the kids out for a while, and Colleen, Ed and I got in 9 holes. Colleen and I tied at 52 and Ed kicked our ass with a 42. I'm trying to establish a handicap. My scores were MUCH lower when I could take unlimited mulligans. Maybe I'll forget about the handicap and go back to shooting bogey golf. I took 6 penalty stokes in 9 holes and I didn't feel that I played all that poorly. In cycling related news, I got the invite to ride the Tour of Utah (www.tourofutah.com). It's a pro invitational only 5 day stage race in August. It is hard as hell and has a ton of climbing. If you think I'm starting to look like a prisoner of war, you are not far off. I weigh in at 134lbs these days. To put that in perspective, I weighed 155 in college and when I got married. I can't imagine what I'd weigh if I could kick the wine and beer at night habit. Also a lady just left my office. She needed to take blood samples for a new Life Insurance policy. Not sure how I did. My weight was 135, my heart rate was 40 (her lowest ever!) and my blood pressure was 80/60. If they didn't know they might think I'm sick.
Tuesday is Colleen and my 8th wedding anniversary. Holy $#@%!!!!

Summer is here!

Summer is finally here. It's been beautiful and in the 80's each day. Not too much to report this week. My folks left and headed back to Michigan on Tuesday. It was a good trip. We have a few days before the Carroll's arrive on Saturday. Sunday is Dekker's 4th birthday. I know it's a cliche, but I can't believe it's been 4 years! I'm sure he'll get plenty of nice gifts.
This weekend was the summer solstice, which is always a bit of a bummer, knowing the days start getting shorter from here on out. When we first moved to Utah we couldn't believe how late the sun stays out. It doesn't get dark until after 9:30pm, which makes getting the kids to bed early a challenge (ever see that episode of the Simpson's when Bart and Lisa sleep over at the Flanders'-kinda like that.) But we are loving the decks on the house. It's nice to kick back on the decks with a beer and make comments about the golfers. We also have a fox in the backyard and he runs around the golf course chasing prairie dogs and birds. Here's Colleen and Haydenne on the deck. She is supposed to be in bed. Dig the Black Flag onesie. She also has them in Bob Marley, Beatles and Pixies. She is also sporting the Motown Mullet. I guess I need to find a Bob Seger one.

Each year during the summer solstice, I typically race the High Uintas Stage Race. I won't bore you with details but between stages on Sunday, the family meets me in Evanston Wyoming and we head to the Uinta Mtns. to relax between the races. I usually try to fly fish, but the water is way to high for this novice fisherman. But it's a nice afternoon just sitting by the Bear River and relaxing in the mountains. I don't seem to do that enough. I find it harder to sit still these days.
I also added a ton of photos to the Flickr account. You can find them in the upper right.

Parents in town and New Utah State Champion

Grandma and Grandpa Hageman were in town this past weekend. They come to town about 2 or 3 times a year. After snowing all day last Wednesday, it turned out to be a beautiful weekend to be in town. Dekker and Haydenne had full schedule of activities that kept everyone busy. From his horseback riding lessons, to swim lessons it seems like we always had someplace to go. Here's a photo of Dekker jumping to his instructor.

Late Friday night, I drove up to Logan, Utah for the Utah State Road Cycling Championships and WON! That's right, I'm your 2008 Utah State Champion.
We celebrated that night at Squatters in Park City. Here is the family at Squatters. Unfortunately, some very cranky kids put a bit of a crimp on the evening.

Sunday being father's day and all, Ted and I hit the golf course for a shotgun at 2pm and then met the family up at the clubhouse for dinner.
Here is Ted. That's our new house behind him and Flo up on the deck.
..and another photo of Ted..
Here's the fam at the clubhouse...
Each Sunday during the summer in PC, they have the Park Silly Market. They close part of Main St and it's a funky small artist markets with vendors, food, music, gyspies, beer garden, you name it. Last year, they had a drum circle for the kids. Dekker had a blast with the bongos!

Weekend too short

This past weekend seemed too short. Woke up on Saturday and quickly found out we were out of coffee. So as I ran to the store, I noticed the fresh dusting of snow on the lower slopes of Park City. UGH! Turned on the local public radio and it was snowing in Old Town and the mountain bike race that morning had to be changed because of new snow on the trails. It did clear up and we did have a sunny although chilly afternoon. I headed down to Sugarhouse for a couple of bike races and the family met me down there. We finished up the day with dinner at the Blue Plate. It's our favorite breakfast joint in SLC. They serve breakfast all day, so we had breakfast and coffee at 5pm. The Blue Plate was featured recently on Diners, Drive-in's and Dive's on The Food Network.
The place is great. It was a bunch of old bikes locked to the front patio and inside is decorated in 50's style kitsch with Johnny Cash and Elvis playing on the juke box. If you are ever to SLC, make sure you stop by.
Sunday ended up being a nicer day, after a relaxing morning and a not so relaxing 4.5 hour bike ride with my friend Eric, we headed over to the base of Park City Mountain Resort for some family fun. Dekker and I did the "Launcher" (check out the video below). He was tentatively for a minute, but then had a blast. The kids then hit the "Sky Rocket" and "Carousel." (click on the photo for Hi Res)

Haydenne fell asleep on the way home in the car, so Dekker and I decided to squeeze in 9 holes. I'm hitting the ball a bit better, but still struggling to get bogey. The course is tough as nails.
You will notice Dekker already keeps his eye on the ball better than his dad does.

I've posted more photos online. If you want to look at all the photos click on the right hand side of the page. In case you are wondering, I do realize I have a daughter. Unfortunately, Haydenne's photos from the carousel came out too dark and she was sleeping the rest of the afternoon. Grandma and Grandpa Hageman show up on Thursday. Hopefully, it won't snow for their visit, but..

New Blog for the Hageman's

Well, I thought it would be a good idea to start this blog to keep our friends and family up to date with what is going on with the family.

Things are good if winter ever decides to end. I saw a snow flake the other day. It's $%&# June!!!
Snowbird is still open on the weekends. They still have a 103" base at mid mountain. Again, it's $%&# June. It was a big snow year. Here is a photo of our mailbox this past winter.

As some may know, we moved to the Jeremy Ranch area of Park City this past winter. The community is around an Arnold Palmer designed golf course. We bit the bullet and joined the country club. It has been a lot of fun. Dekker is having a blast golfing. We get out at least twice a week. Since we live on the 10th tee and 16th green, it's easy to grab a cart and hit a few holes before dinner. Here is Dekker. He's looking pretty pro.

Dad isnt' hitting so pro. Thanks to Ted and Flo for buying me some new clubs. So far, I'm still a hacker. Colleen still kicks my ass on the golf course. First time on the course and first time playing in years, she hit a 47 on the front. Not too shabby.

That's it for now. Have a great weekend.
