Ghosts in the Glenwood Cemetary

We took the kids to the Glenwood Cemetery in Park City on Sunday. This is the old cemetery from back in the mining days. Most of the head stones go back to the mid to late 1800's. Keep neat and creepy place. Each Halloween they have people dress up as the ghosts of some of the notable figures in the cemetery and give some of the history of early Park City days and the hardships they endured.
The kids could care less about hearing about the history, but had fun anyways.

2 Halloween's Down, 1 to Go.

We are done with 2 Halloween Parties for the kids and only have the Main Event on Friday. I had Friday off of work and Dekker didn't have school, so we were able to hang out all day. We hit the gymnasium in the morning and the Park City Mom's Halloween Party in the afternoon.
This morning we had the Halloween Party at the country club for the kid's. They had face painting, balloon animals, and a creepy magician/juggler telling borderline inappropriate jokes. But the kids had a great time.
I'm meeting some friends on Sunday for probably the last big mountain bike ride of the year. On Monday, I have an appointment to see Eric Heiden about my knee. My right knee is numb to the touch, but it doesn't affect me, nor does it hurt. It's really weird. Better get it checked out just in case.

HUGE Weekend!! Birthdays, Golf, Trams, and Elk....

I'm exhausted! It was a fun filled packed weekend. Thursday was Colleen's birthday and Friday was Haydenne's Birthday. I think both girls had a great time on their birthday's. The Carroll's are in town as well to help celebrate. I don't think we could have packed more into a weekend.

On Friday night, I woke up swearing I heard the kid's party favors. I thought maybe one of the kids woke up and was playing in the kitchen, but everyone was asleep. I feel back asleep, but woke up hearing it again. It wasn't a party favor, but was a herd of elk right outside our backyard. I watched them for about 30 minutes. It looked like several dozens cows were behind the house and you could hear the bulls mating calls up on the hillside. It was amazing! I recorded a video with the sounds. You can't see anything, but can hear the elk calls. You can hear the cows and then you hear the big bull elk. Make sure you turn your volume up.

On Saturday, I got up early to get in a rollerski workout. Got back, put on the golf shoes and hit the course with Ed and Colleen. Colleen shot a 44 on the front and finished with a 91. Not too shabby for playing only a couple of times this year. Yours truly stopped keeping score at the 11th hole. Not pretty! After golf, I hopped on the mountain bike for 1.5 hours and Colleen went for a hike, got home and sat down for dinner and the Sox game.
On Sunday, I did another rollerski in the morning, we went to Snowbird to take the kids up the Tram, came home (I went mtn. biking, Colleen went hiking), and then headed up to the Clubhouse for dinner, and watched the Rays beat the Sox.

Snowy Weekend and Dekker's First Movie

Not much happened over the weekend. Saturday snowed all day. I went down to Heber to rollerski for a bit and then we had a party to go to over at the parents of Dekker's friend Jacob. It was a good time. I think the parents had as much fun as the kid's.
Sunday was another snow out with the weather. We cleaned up getting ready for winter. Putting away the summer clothes and organizing all the winter clothing and gear.

I took Dekker to his first movie. We went to go see the new Matchstick Production's ski movie called Claim. We missed Friday's showing where all the skiers in the movie were there to sign posters and autograph's, but it was still a good time. Dekker sat more or less for almost 2 hours watching the movie. They have a raffle before each movie they show in town and we didn't win anything. You have to love what they raffle off. This week was:
1) Ski googles
2) 6 Hand Warmers
3) A large can of cooked chicken
4) A day old loaf of bread

Here is the trailer of the movie we went to see:

Time to ski??

I was able to squeeze in one last mountain bike ride in after work today, but the weather is a changin'. The winds starting howling and the temperatures were dropping fast. The high's are going to be in the low 30's and the low's are going to be in the mid teens (buuuurrrrrr) this weekend with a bunch of snow.
So with the snow coming (again) and the ski season only weeks away, it was time to get the kids hooked up with their skis. The nice thing about having connections in a ski town were a.) the shop was closed and we were the only ones in the shop other than the employees and b.) they were free.
The kids had a great time walking around in their skis. Haydenne is all hooked up. She isn't quite 2 yet, so I guess you could say she started "skiing" when she was 1.

Snowbird

The family decided to take a day trip over to Snowbird. We took the tram up to the top of the mountain. I was surprised how much snow they had up there. It was damn cold at 11,000 feet above sea level. It was nice and pleasant at the base (8,100 feet). After Snowbird, we drove up to Alta and drove into Albion Basin. It was beautiful with the new snow and changing leaves.

Rainy weekend

This week has been beautiful until Friday, when the rain came and didn't let up until Sunday afternoon. Colleen was feeling under the weather, so I guess it was a good weekend to get sick. We had a bit of a scare on Wednesday. Dekker and I hit the golf course after work. Dekker was looking for trout in the river and fell in. He got a pretty good gash on his forehead and ended up getting 7 stitches. He's doing fine and will get the stitches out on Tuesday.
Other than that, not much else to report. I've been mountain biking a bit after work and we had the Utah Cycling Association party on Saturday and that was a lot of fun. And this afternoon, when the sun came out, I did a 1.5 hour roller ski and got the kids out of the house for a bit. We went up to see the snow and then got dinner at a local sushi place.
